A survey of 1034 UK accountants has found that 45% are kept awake at night worrying about work – and that even more are unhappy with their fees, their income and their work-life balance.
Results from the survey show that a staggering 84% of respondents aren’t certain they’re charging the right fees. This lack of confidence could be also contributing to their financial troubles. 73% reported that they aren’t happy with the income they take.
What’s more, 66% of respondents said they aren’t able to spend as much time as they’d like with friends and family. This work-life imbalance is a growing concern.
Other findings include:
- 61% of respondents are experiencing fee pressure from clients and prospects
- 72% aren’t attracting the kind of clients who will pay a premium for the services they most enjoy delivering
- Only 48% get a great sense of fulfilment from their work
A grim picture of the profession
These statistics paint a grim picture of the state of the profession. It’s clear that accountants are facing significant challenges when it comes to growing their businesses, pricing their services correctly, and managing their time effectively.
Shane Lukas is Managing Director of survey organiser, AVN Inspiring Accountants, and also the founder of The Accountants KnowHow Club, a new training platform for accountants.
“We’re talking to accountants all the time and we understand the challenges they’re facing day-today.”
“Worrying about work at night is just the tip of the iceberg. They’re crying out for support and training to help them gain the skills they need to take control of their business and their lives.”
“That’s why we created The Accountants KnowHow Club. It provides step-by-step guidance on growth strategies, pricing, marketing, and other areas where accountants are struggling.”
“Our mission is to help accountants overcome these issues and deliver the best possible service to their clients.”
Unless accountancy firms can find a way through the challenges they face, they will continue to struggle to recruit and retain the best talent and to fully develop the potential of their business.
