The festive season is starting, and it’s all glitter, carols and mince pies… or is it?
AVN’s Kerry Riley asks you to be kind this year.
While many of us are soaking up the festive magic, others might be quietly battling something that isn’t so sparkly. Let’s talk about Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) – a sneaky little Grinch that can creep in during the darker, colder months.
Business owners, in particular, feel the pressure at this time of year. With year-end deadlines, client demands, and the “let’s make it magical” expectations, it’s easy for the joy to get swallowed up by stress and fatigue. Add the effects of SAD – low energy, foggy thinking, and a heavy heart – and even the brightest fairy lights can start to dim.
Here’s the thing: you never know what someone is going through. That client who seems snippy, or the colleague who’s missing deadlines—they might be juggling more than their workload. So, let’s lead with kindness this festive season.
How Can We Stay Merry and Bright?
✨ Lighten the Load: Take a breather during daylight hours. A stroll under the winter sun can do wonders for your mood (bonus points if you grab a coffee on the way!).
✨ Sprinkle Joy: Add moments of fun to your day. A quick office singalong to Mariah, or sharing a silly holiday meme, can lighten the mood for everyone.
✨ Share the Sleigh: Don’t be afraid to delegate and lean on your team. Santa’s got elves for a reason!
✨ Show Compassion: Be mindful of what others might be feeling, and don’t forget to check in with yourself too.
The holidays should be a time to recharge, reflect, and enjoy the fruits of your hard work. So let’s spread joy this season – not just through gifts and glitter, but through understanding and kindness.
You never know the difference a smile, a kind word, or a shared laugh can make for someone who’s quietly battling their winter blues. Let’s be each other’s Christmas cheerleaders, one thoughtful moment at a time.
