Kerry Riley shares why gratitude can drive progress

This was a message I received last week.

“Over the Christmas holidays, I accomplished a significant milestone: I finished writing the content for my website! This task had been on my mind for a while, but it always seemed too overwhelming to tackle. However, thanks to some brilliant advice I picked up from your workshop, I managed to break the task down into manageable steps and complete it.”

It reminded me of the power of a thank you and how gratitude can be incredibly impactful.

The Benefits of Saying ‘Thank You’

We all want to have our input recognised, whether that’s at work or in our personal lives. When we put time and effort into something, we want it to be noticed! How would you feel if you completed a complex project or cooked an amazing meal and nobody said anything about it?

Those two short words can make a significant difference to someone’s day.

But saying thank you isn’t just good manners. When you have a workplace culture of appreciation and recognition, people feel connected and supported. That leads to better collaboration, better ideas and more positive energy. Which can only be a good thing!

What’s more, just saying ‘thank you’ can boost your own mood, reminding you of the good things happening around you.

Tips for Applying Gratitude to Your Life

  • Take a few minutes each day to reflect on what you’re thankful for. Practicing gratitude is proven to have benefits for both mental and physical health.
  • Don’t hesitate to share your gratitude publicly. It not only acknowledges the person you’re thanking but also encourages others to do the same.
  • Write a message to show your genuine appreciation for the recipient – it leaves a lasting impression that they will truly value.
